Had to take these pics of a fabulous sky full of mares’ tails at our place just before…beautiful clear winter sky and wonderful weather up here on the mountain.
Well, the Commonwealth Games are almost upon us and as we are so close to the Gold Coast, we’ve had a lot to endure (and more to come). Today the Queens Baton Relay came through Tamborine Mountain. I ventured out for this event, and guess (maybe?) it was worth the walk from my house and a wait of about an hour. The day was extremely pleasant, about 23 degrees up here, with few clouds and a gentle breeze, plus not too many people and I was able to stand in the shade of a lovely tree, and took lots of photos without concern! Heaps of police, emergency service people, volunteers for the Games etc…..almost as many as onlookers!…Just kidding, but it wasn’t crowded. The kids had a good time, and there’s lots of activities heading into the night. I don’t think I’ll bother with that though. Here’s some pics of the baton and it’s bearer…everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Our tibochinas in the front yard are crazily blooming, and the hit of purple is always so surprising. I took this pic as apparently more rain is coming and the blooms might be spoilt (although there’s plenty more buds unopened yet). Glorious!
Crazy weather lately, with summer storms every afternoon. This afternoon the storm passed out to sea, after giving us some very heavy rain(yet again!). Took these pics just after. The hydrangeas look great at the moment, and the passionfruit vine is going crazy with fruit. Luckily no roof leak…the roofing guy replaced a tile just before the storm arrived!
Wishing every one of my followers, and everyone in the blogosphere a wonderful Christmas season and happy holidays!…here’s a Christmas Waratah mandala greeting for you.
A tree is flowering in our front yard. I have no clue what it is, but it’s probably a local rainforest tree. It smells like honey. The clumps of flowers are lush, and the colour a vibrant golden yellow. Insects adore the tree….a wonderful inspiration for any creative activity. Hope you enjoy the pics…pardon the rain smudge on the second image!
The weather’s been quite warm and so we’re experiencing some storms. Took these pics as a large thunderhead approached. There’s lots of birdlife, including white cockatoos with their raucous voices. The most annoying noise up here is the sound of peoples lawn mowers…worse than Brisbane! Seems to be an obsession. Anyway, I’ve taken a few pics of the outdoors in our yard with storm approaching.
Been working on more paintings, and also a couple of mandalas especially for Christmas…so keep your eye out for those over the next week or so. I’ve planted a few trees and intend to put in more in the lower part of the yard; probably some rainforest types to complement what’s there already.
