More studio designs

I’ve been having fun with some photos I’ve taken, of succulents and cacti, and have come up with a few more digital designs. I love the sculptural shapes of these kinds of plants and how contrasts of tone and texture can be created….here they are.

Kata Juta: dusk…new from the studio

Just completed “Kata Juta: dusk” this week. This abstract painting depicts the Central Australian landscape at Kata Juta (meaning Many Heads), due to the huge unusual rock formations that rise from the earth. During daytime the landscape is an incredible orange, but as evening falls the rocks undergo amazing colour changes into mauve and purples. I wanted to capture this dramatic change that I witnessed years ago while visiting the Central desert area. This place has a powerful spiritual presence and I’ve tried to express this using simple contrasting colour areas and small highlights.

The painting is 61×61 cms and is priced at $820(AUD).

From the studio this week

I’ve been working on “Bangalow evening” for quite a while, deciding if I really like the vibrant pink…well I do, so it remains a major feature in this work. Bangalow is a small town in Northern New South Wales, and I’m assuming that it’s named after the ubiquitous bangalow palms that are native to this area , and up into south east Queensland. I have beautiful memories of sunsets while living in NSW, and in this painting I’m remembering the remnant rainforest around the small town’s edge. This painting has taken a couple of months to complete and I’m happy now with the result. I love the contrast between the sky and the trees. Hope you enjoy too.
