As you know, I’ve been working at creating mandala designs, based on my own photographs. I’ve completed some new ones and I’d like to show them to you. They have different backgrounds…hope you like. All these designs are available as unframed prints priced at $60 AUD, and are printed on high quality matte photographic paper.
I’ve been working on “Interior landscape: aerial” for a few weeks now, and last it’s finished. The painting references the Australian outback as seen from above…as you pass from agricultural land to a more harsh outback environment. I’ve used curved shapes in repetitive ways to indicate landforms, as the landscape often has weathered forms which are interesting to the eye. I’ve left a fluoro pink patch of paint in the centre of the work, just fro fun and a bit of crazy contrast, although sometimes similar colours can be witnessed in these harsh places.
I’ve added three recent works to Gallery 1 and I’m pleased how they look. They’re titled “Kata Juta: dusk”, “Sunday morning: Rainbow Valley”, and “Forest conversation”. These paintings, along with all my other paintings, can be purchased at https://bluet.hm/SusanL
“Reef light” is the latest work from my studio. In this small painting I’m working to evoke the spirit, the essence of being underwater on the Barrier reef. The colour expresses this experience in the lower light of night time. Some lighter colour allude to filtered light through the water. Use your imagination to feel as if you’re floating through a coral cave and enjoying the moody colours and energy of the underwater reef. This piece comes from my memory of swimming on the reef and other underwater experiences. It’s priced at $370(AUD) and is 30x30cm. The medium is acrylic paint on stretched linen.
A new work “Reflections: billabong” is completed and has taken quite some time to create. My painting process can be quite lengthy…I overpaint and change things in my paintings, as I’m working on them. Often they begin with an idea, even a predetermined image in my mind. But the painting develops a life of its’ own and the final stage is regularly unrecognisable from the original idea. I love this spontaneity! It’s a joy to work in this manner, responding to my intuition and tweaking it with knowledge and technical expertise.
The inspiration came from a visit to the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens where a beautiful billabong (small lake) is located. The immediate surroundings are native trees and plantings but some reflections are of the local houses. I love the juxtaposition of urban surroundings with nature in this case, and highlighted the greens and blues of the watery pools with vivid warm colours from the suburb. Lots of fun and I hope you enjoy “Reflections: billabong”.
Please contact me if you are interested in making a purchase. The painting is $990(AUD) and is 76x76cm, acrylic paint on stretched linen.
The artwork “This big land” has been completed this week, and I’m pleased with the final result. It was an evolving work comprising many layers, and I continued with it for more than a month till I was satisfied the painting was resolved. The inspiration for its’ creation is a combination of experience and memory of various diverse Australian landscapes: Central Australian desert, rural drought, pink mists and sunsets. These things coalesce into a work which is about the spirit of the land, and its’ vast ancient presence beyond the narrow coastal strip. A great beauty is found in that expansive harshness, both unsettling yet alluring at the same time. The land speaks of a timeless presence stretching back to ancient roots and beginnings, and I’m grateful for being part of this powerful place.
This artwork is acrylic paint on stretched canvas. Please enjoy “This big land”.
Just updated Gallery 1 with my latest work, “Oceans’ embrace”…you can view Gallery 1 here.
This week I’ve completed a painting titled “Oceans’ embrace”. As Australians we seem to be attracted to, and love, the ocean. I don’t swim regularly, but have enjoyed the healing power and attraction of our oceans. It is an overwhelming experience of natures’ power and in this work I’ve depicted that experience….the colour and movement of the water, the reflected light. Small spots of gold have been added to highlight the joy and vibrance of the whole imaginary scene. This painting is about feeling the mood of the ocean and being immersed in its waters.
The painting is 106x76cms, is acrylic paint on stretched canvas, and is priced at $995AUD. If you’re interested in making a purchase please go to my contact page.
A glimpse of what’s happening in my studio this week…still working on a couple of pieces, and enjoying the pastel hues (although that can change at any time, when I begin to balance colours and tones!). Thought I pop this image up for the viewer!
